Havelock Island is named after a British general, Sir Henry Havelock, who served in India. Once home to the aboriginal tribes who spoke Aka-Bale language and who are extinct now, Havelock today is inhabited mostly Bengali immigrant. Havelock is the crown of Andaman Tourism. It is not only famous for its beaches but also for its rich sea food. There are local restaurants offering sea foods from tiger prawn to lobster and from Exquisite crab to Mouthwatering Fishes. After Dusk the activities are very limited in Havelock, one can enjoy a sip of beer with this delicacies and say life is indeed beautiful.
The arrival jetty is in Beach #1. Govind Nagar or beach #3 is the main town with local shops selling handicraft souvenir to local dabbas selling sea foods. Most of the shops are located from beach #3 to beach #5 also known as Vijay nagar. The Junction at Govind nagar cuts off to beach #7 Radhanagar, the must visit spot of the island. There are two ATM at Govind Nagar one of SBI and Other AXIS bank. The market place in Govind Nagar sells all kinds items from imported cigarettes to snorkeling kits.
When to visit?
Mid November to March end sees favorable climate to visit this places. This time of the year the sea is calm, less shower and plenty of sunshine but if you are a person like me and enjoy a romantic walk in drizzle with someone special then March to June end is perfect time for it. During this time sky is slightly cloudy, mild temperature and a perfect set for romantic walk in one of world most beautiful island.
Ferries:
There are currently 5 private ferries operating in route of Havelock and Port Blair Makruzz Gold, Makruzz, Coastal Cruise, Green Ocean 1 and Green Ocean 2. Apart from this there are Govt. Ferries too operating in this sector too. The Ferry timing may differ during certain months. The private ferries operate on full length on multiple schedule from October to March and different timing on March to August.
These ferries can be pre booked through us and the opening of booking is normally done in 2 month advance. One can also book them online, if need be. The availability of ticket can be an issue during prime season time.
Makruzz is an air conditioned Catamaran and Green ocean is an open deck air-conditioned ship. The normal journey time varies from 90 min to 120 min. More details about them can be found on the ferry details section of this website.

- Radhanagar beach
It is the one of most beautiful beach in whole of India and was rated best beach in Asia by TIME magazine 2004. Turquoise water, silky sand under ones feet and blue sky, this place has a habit of making one feel like heaven. There are private vehicle which can be hired to reach this beach, Govt. buses, rickshaws and even by trekking one can reach this lagoon depends on the travel style of the traveller.
- Kalapather Beach
It is a long stretch of white silky sand with big black rocks beside the blue sea. It is situated on one corner of Havelock and is a continuation of beach No. 5. The beach gets its name from the surrounding village, which is Kalapathar Village and the black rocks (known as Kalapathar in Hindi) that adorn the coastline here.
- Elephant Beach
This is an excellent place to indulge in water sport activity. Majority of water sport activity is done here starting from Snorkeling, Sea walk, Jet skis, banana ride, glass bottom boat ride and Sofa ride. It is reachable by fiber boat from Beach #1 or by foot from beach #7.Remember to pack food if you are interested as food options are very limited in this beach.
