Neil Island is named after a British Brigadier, James Neil who had fought on the side of British East India Company in the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857. It is 32km northeast from Port Blair. It is located between Havelock and Ross Island. Neil Island was uninhabited until 1960 till the arrival of settlers in late 1960s.
